How do you turn a dark, awkward interior into a bright and comfortable home? This Highgate maisonette was weighed down by a confusing layout, structural hurdles and rooms that felt gloomy and disconnected. The clients wanted a fresh start, with more light, better flow and a stronger sense of modern comfort.

MALT reconfigured and extended the ground floor to create an open plan kitchen, dining and living space, while still allowing for a separate utility and full shower room. Crittall-style French doors and rooflights helped bring daylight deeper into the home, while bespoke joinery added storage, warmth and continuity. Clean lines were balanced with soft textures, natural tones and carefully placed colour, creating spaces that feel practical, welcoming and personal.

The result is a home transformed by light and thoughtful planning. Once dark and awkward, it now feels open, comfortable and beautifully connected, ready for everyday family life and relaxed entertaining.
