Interior Designer & Founder

Our Story

MALT was founded on the belief that thoughtful design has the power to transform the way we live.

After more than 30 years working across graphic design, exhibitions, and brand experience, I moved into interiors around a decade ago, following the renovation and extension of our own home, a project that completely changed how we lived and led to the creation of the studio.

MALT is a family business, structured around the way we wanted to live and work. I lead the design, and my husband, a professional photographer, documents each project. Over time, it has grown with us, with our son and daughter now supporting the business behind the scenes. From the outset, I chose to focus on residential work to allow for a more balanced family life, a decision that continues to shape how we work today, with care, flexibility, and genuine involvement in every project.

My approach is shaped by the places we’ve lived and the cultural influences that have defined our experience, from New York and Denmark to Italy, Japan, and the UK. From the calm simplicity of Scandinavian homes to the challenge of compact urban living and the character of period properties, these influences shape interiors that feel considered, personal, and comfortable.

I don’t follow a set style. Instead, I take the time to understand how you live and what you need from your space, shaping each project with clarity, care, and attention to detail. From concept to completion, I guide every step, creating a process that feels as seamless as the finished result.

    The Lee Valley industrial estate is a maze of parked vans and moving forklifts, but Jo’s workshop sits tucked quietly at the back. Stepping inside, you leave the hum behind. The first thing you notice is that this workshop is spotless – benches cleared, tools aligned, machines waiting patiently. There’s a mellow rhythm to it, one that belongs to Jo as much as it does to the place.
